Miami’s main attraction is the Miami Seaquarium, home to TV star Flipper the dolphin and Salty the sea lion. It features three shows a day performed by Lolita the killer whale, Salty the sea lion and other animals in the aquarium. People who visit Miami can choose between a day spent outdoors at a nature park or an afternoon walking through an historic district. The aquarium displays coral reefs, tropical gardens and thousands of other sea creatures in display tanks. Families enjoy the outdoor wildlife/nature parks at Monkey Jungle; hundreds of trained chimpanzees, gorillas and monkeys roam freely in a natural rainforest setting. Additionally, many people visit the park to see the shows performed by trained chimpanzees daily. Both Parrot Jungle Island and Monkey Jungle Island feature large portions of their islands dedicated to birds in flight. Parrot Jungle Island is located between Downtown Miami and South Beach; it features 42 acres, the Everglades exhibit and a picnic pavilion. On these islands, over 1,100 tropical birds perform daily for 40 minutes. Other sections of the islands include animal barns, bird and plant nurseries, playgrounds, two amphitheaters and jungle trails. In addition to regular performances, these islands also include ice skating demonstrations, arithmetic demonstrations and more.
